March 29th Show at The Digger in Monroe MI. was Fun  (posted 4/19/09)

We made some pretty good friends at the Battle of the Bands show in Pontiac, The Bearded Bastards and Plum Nasty being two of them.  We were invited to play a show with these two bands on their home turf at The Digger in Monroe Michigan, so of course we said “Hell Yes”!

It was a two plus hour drive down there but it was well worth it, Monroe Rocks! It was great playing a show with The Bearded Bastards and Plum Nasty and thanks to The Digger and the crowd for such a warm welcome, you guy’s rock!  Sorry we don’t have any photos available to post. We hope to get back down there sometime soon and we’ll get The Bearded Bastards and Plum Nasty up here closer to home and play a show or two or more.

Battle of the Bands - March 13th Eagle Theater Pontiac MI  (posted 4/19/09)

On Friday March 13th we (all the members of Six Syllable Sin) met at Bruce’s house to embark on a journey that would take us to The Eagle Theater in Pontiac Michigan where we would participate in a 13-band battle of the bands. With the gear all packed we hit the road for a two-hour drive to Pontiac to make the 2:30pm load in time.

It was a nice day, the sun was out and by the time we reached The Eagle Theater the temperature was in the mid 50’s, it was a great day for a road-trip. We unloaded our gear while several other bands were doing the same.  I was impressed by size and the layout of The Eagle Theater with its huge dance floor, huge stage and couldn’t wait to play.

The show didn’t start until 4:30pm and we wouldn’t play until 11:00pm so we had some time to kill and headed out to get a room and grab a bite to eat. Bruce and I would stay the night while Jodon and Scott would head back home. We ate at the hotel and headed back up to the room to relax a little before the show.

Before long it was time to head out, we wanted to get there in time to catch a few bands before we were to go on. Bruce and I decided we needed to pick up some beer for after the show and would stop off on the way to pick some up.   We didn’t get lost searching for a party store but we did stop at one or two that were closed before we found one that was open.  Interesting little store with the cashier in his bulletproof glass room, where you set your six-pack on the bulletproof turnstile and spin it into his room so he can scan it.  It had been a while since I had to do that.

When Bruce and I finally arrived at The Eagle Theater there were three bands left before we were to take the stage. It didn’t take us long at all to find Scott, Jodon and the crew that made the trip down there to see us.  The funny thing was is that everyone I talked to that made the trip down got lost or turned around at one point.  Oh well, they all made it and that’s what counts.

The promoters ran a tight schedule that night, they had to in order to fit that many bands in the lineup. With twenty-minute sets and only a ten-minute change over I was a little concerned with us being able to get set up in time.  Jodon, Scott and Bruce all tuned up their guitars and I assembled my pedals while the band ahead of us were playing.

We’re on…well in ten minutes…. First we have got to get set up which went better than I expected do in part to all the knowledgeable stage hands. Being a drummer you have an awful lot of gear to keep your eyes on, and I don’t know these people who are now handling my stuff and that can be a little nerve racking, but all went well.

OK, now were on, we start the first song and I am sitting behind the drum kit and its about 15 feet in front of me to the edge of the stage, beyond that I see about two rows of faces squeezed up tight to the stage, some I know but most I don’t and beyond that…nothing but pitch black. I look to my right and Scott is standing way over by the PA stack by the front of the stage, I glance to my left and there’s Bruce, way over there and in front of me right on the edge of the stage is Jodon nailing the first line of our first song.  I smiled thinking we’ve never really been this far apart while playing but yet I felt closer to my band than I ever have. We played a killer set, people were screaming and five songs later we finished right on time.

We took 5th place that night out of 13 bands, not bad, pretty good actually considering the talent that was there that night.  Even better than that were the new people we met and friends we made. If you were there we thank you for your support and be sure to check out the photos on the photos page.

“From Her Perspective” is Generating Reviews on GarageBand.com (posted 4/19/09)

Finally after months of being in round one of the review stage at GarageBand.com the Six Syllable Sin song “From Her Perspective” written by Jodon has reached the top of the list and has been getting written reviews. Check them out by clicking here,  That will take you to our Garage Band page and just click on any of the reviews on that page to read them.

I personally have been a music reviewing member on GarageBand.com and enjoy it greatly.  When you are reviewing music you do songs in pairs, one after the other.  You pick the genre you want to review and the first song pops up, you are not given the song title or the band’s name, just the song to listen to as many times as you want and are asked to answer some questions and write a review / constructive criticism. After you are finished with the first song you are given the second song and the review process starts over again.  When your finished with the second song you are taken to a page that exposes the bands and songs you just reviewed and if you are lucky the band allows you to download the song if you want.

Here is the kicker of the “reviewer process”, as a reviewer your reviews are critiqued and graded and if you don’t keep your score up they will boot you off the site. I personally have found some decent kick ass bands / songs here that you wont hear on the radio. Here are two that I call my reviewed killer finds.  1st Murder Room, the song “Bleed on the Outside”, the band has been defunct for quite some time but its a killer tune. The 2nd Drenalin , the song “Pressure” , great band out of Cleveland Ohio.  If you are into great music you probably have never heard before I urge you to check those bands out. If your adventurous and love to check out new music whether it be good or band sign up on GarageBand.com you don’t have to be in a band.

SixSyllableSin.com Celebrates Anniversary  (posted 4/19/09)

SixSyllableSin.com celebrated its one-year anniversary on the Internet back in February. Wow one year, over 12,000 hits and still going strong. Anyone remember what the website looked like in the early days?  Well to view a snapshot of an early rendition of this site click here, it’s the only rendition I could find anyway and it’s obviously old. Wow has this site evolved. And then our MySpace page celebrated its one-year anniversary in March.  No cake or party hats this year, maybe next.
